Synopsis: Early Sunday morning, in a rainy city center a ten-year-old-boy steps out in front of traffic. He is dazed, confused and barefoot. He is covered in blood. It’s not his.
Detective Maddie Ives is called out and finds the boy traumatized and backed up against a shop front. He can’t or won’t speak. His face is a mask of shock and his whole body is tense. He’s ready to run again. He can’t tell her why.
Then a man is found brutally murdered, dragged to death. And Maddie and Detective Harry Blaker are determined to find out who is pulling the strings. If they don’t stop him, he will find more victims. And the evil will come close to home.
Review: He Will Find You is a thoroughly gripping thriller with so many twists and turns and shocking surprises that I was compelled to keep reading to discover how Maddie and Harry solved this case. From the moment the young boy walked into the street covered head to toe in someone else’s blood and unable to speak, I was caught up in the gruesome story and needed to know what was happening and why. I was also intrigued by Jack, a susceptible and lonesome young man who falls prey to the diabolical influences of a madman and becomes a forced accomplice. While the plot kept me reading, I struggled to connect with the characters and was often frustrated by their actions and behaviors. For me, the narrative voice detracted me a bit from the smartly crafted plot. Similarly, I wished that the other characters had more memorable voices. Vince was the only character that stood out to me that had a distinct voice. Other than my issue with the narrative and character voice, which is just my personal preference, I felt the book was a solid and enjoyable read.
